Alder Hey is a very special organisation.  We care for over 200,000 children a year mostly at our main site in West Derby, Liverpool as well as increasingly also from a range of community and hospital outreach settings across the North West of England, Wales and the Isle of Man.  We are one of only four specialist children's trusts in England and the first accredited by the World Health Organisation as a public health promoting paediatric hospital. We are also a highly complex high-performing Trust running 62 service lines including A&E, community and mental health services. 

The role of Chief Nurse spans many areas which are critical for our continued success: you will be a highly visible professional lead for our Nursing and Allied Health Professionals and, working closely with our Executive Medical Director, you will shape and lead the next phase of our quality improvement journey; you will ensure the highest possible quality of care and experience for our children and young people; you will actively encourage innovation and research in line with our ambitions and the national and regional Children’s Health Strategy. 

This role represents an exceptional opportunity to apply your leadership skills at executive director level in one of the country’s most iconic Trusts.  We are seeking an experienced leader, someone who can command the respect of fellow clinicians, present a strong and credible external face of the organisation, and bring sound judgement to the board.  It is a role that is suitable to nurse leaders including but not limited to paediatrics.  It will require the ability to grasp operational detail at the same time as thinking strategically; you will need to deal with high levels of complexity, establishing and developing external partnerships that realise the benefits of our superb hospital. You will also need the vision to see beyond the hospital’s walls, recognising the potential for working differently and for innovation that benefits our patients and their families.
